Lisa Bremson Perry, pianist born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, Lisa Bremson Perry studied piano under Marilyn Herndon from the age of four to twenty-two years old. Mrs. Herndon was a well-known piano teacher and concert pianist in Raleigh who played with the North Carolina Symphony as a guest Pianist. Through the years, Lisa studied a variety of genres of music; however, she preferred classical. Her favorite composers are Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Chopin, and Scott Joplin. Her contemporary influences are Edward, McDowell, Joseph Martin, George Winston, and David Nevue.
In 1986, Lisa attended WakeTechnical College and then transferred to North Carolina State University, where she worked part-time in the DH Library on campus. During this time, Lisa played in several rock ‘n’ roll bands. Growing up in a musical family, Lisa took every opportunity to play as many different styles of music as possible – from classical to 1980s rock ‘n’ roll.
In 1993, Lisa married John L Perry. John is self-employed and runs a very successful company specializing in financial and retirement planning. In late 1994 they welcomed their handsome baby boy, Tyler into their family. As Tyler grew and became ready for school, John and Lisa decided to homeschool their son from 1st to 12th grade. Tyler is a professional artist, curator, and exhibitor. He is currently pursuing a degree in fashion design with the end goal of becoming a master tailor. Some of his most recent works have been accepted into the archives at the History Colorado Center. He is living his best life in the beautiful state of Colorado. Even with her responsibilities as a wife, mother, and teacher, she was able to continue her studies of music.
In 2001, the Perry’s moved to Wendell, North Carolina, and began attending Wendell Baptist church. Soon after, Lisa became a church musician in a voluntary capacity for the worship services which included contemporary, traditional, and classical music on both piano and Organ. She was also a member of the music ministry team, and the assistant to the Minister of Music. This is where her love for writing music and creating and producing choral Cantatas and other productions began to develop.
In September 2011, Lisa Perry began studying under John Benton of Wake Forest, North Carolina. John is the orchestra and chorus Director at McDougall Middle School in Durham, North Carolina. Mr. Benton is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, where he received his bachelor's degree in music with a concentration in piano performance.
Because of her love of classical music, Lisa became involved with the Clayton Piano Festival and served on the advisory board until she returned to college in 2013 at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary(SEBTS). The Clayton Piano Festival was founded in directed by Jonathan Levin, a concert pianist from Clayton, North Carolina.
While attending SEBTS, Lisa was named the Director of music education at Wendell Baptist Church. There, she created, directed, and taught free group piano lessons to students of all ages and backgrounds. Through these lessons, Lisa Bremson Perry was able to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with her students as they learned how to not only play the piano, but also theory, read music, music history, and music appreciation. Every student who participated in this program was able to then participate in a recital and graduation ceremony. This ministry began in 2013 reaching approximately 700 people in five years. Lisa also began teaching private lessons as well.
During her attendance at SEBTS, Lisa began studying piano and Organ under Dr. Nanette Minor Godwin. Dr. Godwin received her bachelor of music degree in piano performance under Dr. Philip Morgan and artist in residence Daniel Ericourt, a world, renowned French concert artist, who studied under the famous classical composer Claude Debussy. Dr. Godwin also received her masters in divinity of organ performance under Dr. James Good, and then her PhD in music education at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro under Dr. James Sherbon, With monies in research, methodology, organ, performance, and music history. She wrote and established the curriculum for keyboard evangelism and has traveled worldwide using this in her ministry. She has published many pedagogical, piano books, and various articles about piano study. Lisa continued studying under Dr. Godwin until 2017.
The summer of 2017 proves to be an exciting time for the Perrys. Lisa was accepted and began attending The Juilliard School Conservatory in New York City in their online program. Also, John and Lisa moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. They have had a home there for over 20 years. John moved his offices there where he continues to work in retirement planning. In July 2019, Lisa joined the Beach Church worship band under the leadership of Tom Garber. She continues to work on many new and exciting projects in her music career. This includes solo concerts, collaborations with other musicians, and studio work.
Along with the many projects, in October 2022, Lisa Bremson Perry opened Perry’s Music Studio in Surfside Beach, South Carolina. She offers private instructions to all ages and skill levels.
